ATLANTA, GA (WALB) - Civil rights leaders across Georgia are asking the United States Supreme Court to step in and stop the scheduled execution of Warren Hill.
Hill was sentenced to die for the 1990 beating death of a fellow inmate at Lee State Prison. He is scheduled to be executed tonight at 7 p.m.
But the NAACP agrees with Hill's lawyers that he is too mentally disabled to understand his crime.
The state, however, has said Hill's defense lawyers have failed to prove his mental disability beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Albany Dougherty NAACP branch is holding a prayer vigil tonight at 6:30 at their office at 136 North Magnolia Street.
The NAACP, along with the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities and Georgian's for Alternatives to the Death Penalty released a complete list of events across the state regarding the execution. They are listed below:
