#SaveMedicaid: Submit your Comments by Monday 9AM Eastern
Calling all Medicaid Advocates!
WHAT: The U.S. Senate Finance Committee will be holding a hearing on the Graham-Cassidy bill on Monday at 2 pm. The hearing record needs to be filled with strong statements of opposition from organizations and individuals and stories of the devastating impact this would have on people, including people with disabilities and pre-existing conditions.
WHY THIS IS IS SO IMPORTANT: This bill would be devastating to people with disabilities and their families, women and children, seniors, low income Americans, and threaten access to community living, employment opportunities, & educational supports. There is a rule that only gives the Senate until the end of this month (just a few short days) to try to pass this bill with only a simple majority. Reports say they are close to having enough votes so we must raise our voices now. I know we are tired, but for so many of us, this is a life or death fight! Without Medicaid, many of us will literally die without health care or end up segregated from our loved ones in nursing facilities.
WHAT TO DO: Submit your comments to and copy and (Will Dent is Senator Isakson's health policy staffer). Note that Senator Isakson is on this committee. Use the subject line "Graham-Cassidy Hearing Comments" and submit comments BY NO LATER THAN 9AM EASTERN, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25. Aim for approximately two or three paragraphs but probably no more than half a page.
Here are the points you should address in your comments:
1. Who you are.
2. Where you are from <city, state="">.
3. Why saving Medicaid is important/what it does for you (e.g., Be sure to mention if Medicaid supports help you live at home, go to work, or how they help you to be independent)
4. What would it mean for you if you lost your Medicaid?
5. Tell them why you OPPOSE the Graham-Cassidy bill (Hint: Because it cuts Medicaid).
6. Call for Senators to: OPPOSE Graham-Cassidy Bill and don't allow Medicaid to be gutted.
