EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EVENTS TO HELP ATHENS’ DISABILITY COMMUNITY
March 10, 2023 (Atlanta, GA)-Exceptional Living 101 is hosting an emergency preparedness event in Athens, Georgia for the disability community March 23, 2023 in person at the Athens-Clarke County Library from 10 am to 12 noon. In partnership with the Georgia Advocacy Office (GAO) and with the support of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD), these events will help to inform individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), their families, and the community about public safety.
During these emergency preparedness meetings, attendees will be educated and be informed about emergency preparedness and will also have the opportunity to participate in the no-cost raffle to win emergency preparedness prizes, including a phone power bank, a carbon monoxide monitor, a weather radio, first aid kits, flashlights, and more.
“Exceptional Living 101, a GCDD grantee, and The Georgia Advocacy Office are working on a statewide emergency preparedness initiative for people with disabilities. We are collaborating with Walton Options who will host an in-person Emergency Preparedness Listening Session for individuals with disabilities,” said Naomi Williams, Founder and Owner of Exceptional Living 101.
“We are looking to hear from people within the disability community, as well as their family and friends that provide supports, regarding their lived experiences in dealing with and managing emergency situations and accessing services. We are excited to have you and those you support through your advocacy efforts attend,” said Williams. “Emergencies happen every day. We want to hear from the community and learn what you consider an emergency, how you prepare for it and what supports you need or barriers you encounter.”
The Athens-Clark County Library is located at 2025 Baxter Street, GA 30606. There will also be a virtual event for the Athens disability community Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 10am to 12pm. For more information, contact 706-426-1936. These events are free, but registration is required. To register, click here.
