Accessible Design Regulations Get First Update in 20 Years – Made Effective March 15

Look forward to better access for service animals, wheelchair users and in the ways in which we purchase tickets and make reservations through public and private venues.

The Southeast ADA Center has posted a summary of regulations which were made effective last week, making public and private places more accessible for people with disabilities.  The modifications are the first update in 20 years and address facilities including state and local government offices, public schools, state licensing and exam centers, hospitals, doctors’ offices, restaurants, retail stores, hotels, movie theaters, private schools, convention centers, day care centers, and recreation facilities, such as sports stadiums and fitness clubs.

See the summary at the Southeast ADA Center’s website. Or see a good, brief, summary article at the Disability Scoop website.

Visit the Department of Justice website for complete information on the regulations which were signed by Attorney General Eric Holder on July 23, 2010 and  effective just last week (March 15).
