Help Improve Transportation for People with Disabilities

The 2010 Georgia General Assembly passed legislation that offers all citizens the opportunity to improve transportation in Georgia.  All across the state, roundtable transportation planning groups are meeting and setting priorities.  People who cannot drive or cannot afford a personal vehicle MUST get involved - and get involved TODAY - in order to ensure that people with disabilities are among the citizens enjoying better transportation.  As we all know, the lack of affordable and accessible public transportation is the number-one barrier to independence for our community!

Between now and March 30, the roundtables will be forming a comprehensive list of transportation projects, which can include roads, bike lanes, expanded public transit, accessible sidewalks and curbcuts.  Contact the planners for your region ASAP to learn 1) what is ALREADY in their plan for improvement in transportation for ALL citizens - including the disability community and 2) who you can contact to get your recommendations included in the March 30 projects list.

Get involved by contacting the regional commissions and voicing your concerns.  For more information, see the attached documents.
