"Gwinnett Gives" Timebank will take place tomorrow, Nov. 3

On Saturday, November 3, Gwinnett County residents can expand their personal support network by joining the Gwinnett Gives TimeBank at its launch party on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 12 to 2pm in Snellville at the Grace Fellowship Church, 1400 Dogwood Road.
The Gwinnett Gives TimeBank is part of a national movement to promote equality and build caring community economies in an inclusive manner, regardless of ability, age, race or other factors. Learn more at timebanks.org.
In a TimeBank, people share their gifts and talents for an hour and receive an hour from anyone else in the group. It’s free to join. Current offers in the Gwinnett Gives TimeBank range from tutoring and transportation to cleaning and companionship. For example: Mary earns time “dollars” or credit by cleaning the home of her elderly neighbor Joe. She then redeems her time “dollars” for care giving (a baby sitter), provided by Ann. Ann uses her time dollars for SAT tutoring. Joe earns his time dollars by providing transportation for Ann to her tutoring session.
Gwinnett Gives TimeBank is a project of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (www.GCDD.org) Real Communities initiative, created to equip people with and without disabilities at the grassroots level to work together toward common goals to improve their own community. On Saturday, the Gwinnett County community is invited to learn about this reciprocal concept which values and respects everyone and understands that there are times when our gifts, talents and abilities are beyond price. GCDD, a federally funded independent state agency, works to bring about social and policy changes that promote opportunities for persons with developmental disabilities and their families to live, learn, work, play and worship in Georgia communities.
